Thermoelectric modules in mechatronic systems: Temperature-dependent modeling and control

Active thermal control is crucial in achieving the required accuracy and throughput many industrial applications, e.g., medical, high-power lighting, semiconductor industry. Thermoelectric Modules (TEMs) can be used to both heat cool, alleviating some of challenges associated with traditional electric heater based control. However, dynamic behavior these modules non-affine their inputs state, complicating implementation. To facilitate advanced approaches a high fidelity model required. In this paper an approach presented that increases modeling by incorporating temperature-dependent parameters. Using experimental identification procedure, parameters are estimated under different operating conditions. The resulting feedback linearization linearize system, facilitating use linear techniques. Moreover, it presents observer reconstruct state information cases where sensor placement limited. framework forms complete thermoelectric elements.
